Artists' Statement

I consider myself a visionary artist or a messenger of the divine truth. A surrealist or symbolist could also be appropriate. The artwork is generally created from a single moment or flash of insight. This moment or sensory experience can happen almost anywhere, but is more likely to happen while in meditation, calmly examining nature, while listening to music, in dreams, or even while going to the bathroom. These insights can manifest in visual imagery and also in words. In a sense, I am consciously asking the universe for the truth to reveal itself. For it is in the asking, or in the openness, or in the emptiness where this truth dwells. I believe these images are gifts to heighten mankind's sensibilities and, in turn, benefit all beings. This is why I may work months on a piece distilling the message until it becomes clear. One might consider my work to be strange or disconnected from themselves; but I find the images not only to be personal icons but possibly even universal archetypes, unearthing the core meaning of my being, of being itself. Even though the artwork is closely tied with my life; my thoughts, actions, or even using an image of my likeness, I still do not consider the images to be mine. If I use the image of my face it stands for all faces. I am a mere channel giving what given. The truth is both relative and absolute, simultaneously. I know the efforts of following the heart have resulted in a larger understanding of my life and hopefully it is able to stretch beyond to touch others as well.
